Tips For Taking Medicine You May Find Useful

Adriana Noton | May 15, 2011

Tips for taking medicine may be useful to you if you have medication to take that you either don’t like or find hard to swallow. Medication by nature is designed to work rather than taste good, this helps prevent children from ingesting it without knowing what it is. However, nasty tasting medicine just makes things worse if you don’t like to take it in the first place.

Taking medicine you don’t like can be done in several ways. How you do it will depend in part of what type needs to be taken, for example pills or a liquid. It’s important to always read any labels or information leaflets that come with your medication as these can contain important information about how the medicine should be taken.

If you find it hard to swallow pills and tablets there are several things you can do. Some pills can be dissolved in liquid. This is a good option if it is the act of swallowing that you find difficult, as opposed to the taste of the tablets.

Another things you could try is crushing the pills until they become a powder. This powder can then be mixed with food to disguise the medicine. This could range from mixing it with a spoonful of jelly, or putting it in with a whole meal. Which option you choose will depend on the instructions given which tell you how the pills should be taken.

If you can take medication, but just don’t like doing so, a good tip is to give yourself a reward afterwards. This may range from chocolate to some time on your own, it’s whatever you consider to be a treat. This method is good as it can work whether you need to take liquid medicine or tablets.

If the medication you need to take is in liquid form you could mix it with another liquid that you like the taste of. Always check the label to see if there are any restrictions on what you could use as the mixer liquid. Try to use as little additional liquid as possible so that you are not diluting it too much.

Routine is important when it comes to your medication. If you can get used to taking it at the same time each day there is much less chance of you forgetting it. If you just leave it until you remember you may end up missing doses and that could lessen the effect of the medication or have other side effects.

Get yourself a medication buddy to help you with taking your medicine. Often it is easier to do something we don’t like if we have the support of another person to help us. They don’t necessarily need to be with you in person, they could be at the end of a phone, but they may provide that little extra help that you need.

Finding good tips for taking medicine during menopause really can make a difference. Many families have their own tips which have come down through the generations. When you find one that works for you you’ll be amazed at how much easier it becomes to take your medication and wish you had discovered it earlier.

Pregnant – Don’t Wait, Begin Your Planning Now

Mark Anthony | January 28, 2010

Expecting is the most natural thing in the world and occurs to nearly every female on earth. This is a universal occurrence and yet not so universal in the sense that each pregnant experience is unlike any other.

You are pregnant from the time the baby is conceived. However, this is not usually known until you experience some symptoms about one month after conception. The most obvious sign of pregnancy is the missing of monthly menstruation. Another obvious sign is the feeling of being nauseous. This particular symptom is especially strong if this is your first time being pregnant. Other signs of being pregnant are a loss of appetite, fatigue, irritation, etc.

Nearly everyone who is pregnant will not be menstruating at that time and most people will be feeling nauseous. The other signs are less ‘pre-requisite’ although most women will experience these symptoms. It is only a matter of which degree these are experienced.

If you are planning to get pregnant, do take a close look at the current life-style that you are leading. Mentally go through your diet and such. It is advisable that your new life-style takes place three months ahead of expecting. However, six months is even better as this gives you more leeway, as you can imagine.

Besides, how well do you adapt to changes, however minor? Be aware that this involves a change of habits. And habits are often emotionally invested in, not that these are set in stone however. What you need is the willingness to do so. You cannot necessarily speed this up any more than it is easy to kick the habit of smoking. You have to work it into your flow of being.

Start with the area that needs this change the most but do not try to do it all at once. This will only put you off balance. Plan on a strategy where you can tackle this bit by bit. The key is to make it easy enough that you know that you can gradually pull this off.

Begin by exploring your sleep and wake pattern. Do you often find yourself short of sleep? Being tired is not the natural state of being even if you should think it not uncommon. Believe it or not, the quality of your sleep affects your waking experience. In other words, your life is affected by the quality of your sleep.

You are wise in that you are planning for your pregnancy so soon. You cannot do it soon enough and your bundle of joy cannot be more fortunate to have a mother like you. But most of all, you deserve this, as does your significant other. Plan months ahead and you will not be sorry. You will be very glad you did.

The Variation Of A Doctor From A Midwife

Sharon Christopher | January 25, 2010

A lot of people don’t realize that when you are pregnant there are alternatives to doctors. In short, the person that will deliver the baby does not have to be a doctor. The other choice is a midwife. Since majority of the people do not know that fact, we are going to discover the differences in this article.

First of all with a midwife their driving principle is a woman centered care. To make it short, the focus during the delivery and pregnancy is the woman. Now that might sound as if the doctor doesn’t care about the woman but here are some differences.

First of all using a midwife usually has the objective of having the baby naturally. As opposed to doctors, who treat delivery as a medical procedure. Because of that a lot of medicines, drugs, and other things are used for delivery. As opposed to a midwife who tries to have the baby naturally.

Another main distinction is that a midwife is primarily employed because of their more personalized care. When you go to appointments you will notice the atmosphere is more warm and friendly. As opposed to a doctor where it just feels like a medical appointment.

Another distinction in utilizing a midwife is that most of the time it means having the delivery at home. That is the main reason why a lot of women choose to go with a midwife. They would rather have it at home than in a hospital. This allows the family to be more involved.

Now all these contrast do not necessarily mean that medical knowledge and tools are not practiced. As a matter of fact, a lot of midwives have been trained medically. They know medical procedures that would need to be performed. So using a midwife does not mean not using any of the latest technology or information.

So as you can see there are many differences between a doctor and a midwife. The important note is that you know what you want during your pregnancy. When you know that you can make an informed decision.

Health Care At Camp

Jeff Lorenz | January 24, 2010

Shortly, nearly 10 million children be going to Summer Camps. But before they go, health experts are issuing strong new advice to both parents and camp directors, and recommending new precautions to protect campers’ health.

The American Academy of Pediatrics along with the American Camp Association created an official policy statement about camper health and Summer Camp responsibilities. Edward Walton, M.D. is lead author of the paper.

The new policy statement for the first time advises parents to thoroughly assess whether a camp is right for their child’s mental, emotional and physical well-being, as well as their interests and skills.

Walton says, “camps should provide parents with a complete picture of what their programs involve”. Look at the total package and be sure it is safe an healthy for your child.

Homesickness prevention, the authors write, should start weeks before a child goes off to camp, and can be led by parents with the help of the doctor or other health care provider who performs the child’s pre-camp health assessment.

Walton, suggests “Parents should also avoid making pre-arranged plans with their children about picking them up if they get homesick. If parents discuss camp positively, avoid expressing doubts about a child’s ability to avoid homesickness”.

The American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines say the pediatricians need to be involved with camps in their local have up to date protocols and help as medical backups for camp health personnel.

Asthma and allergies also bring new challenges for camps. Parents need to teach their children how to use rescue inhalers or EpiPens (allergy-calming epinephrine injection devices). With or with out the summer camp. Camps need to help children have them nearby at all times.

Delay in not having these items handy can have real health consequences for the child.

The new guideline does not give detailed recommendations for camps that serve only children with special medical circumstances, such as cancer, physical disabilities, blindness, deafness or diabetes. But it recommends that camps work with local pediatricians and health professionals to assess children’s fitness to take part in such camps, and establish programs specific to them.

Diagnosis of Autism

Andreaze Tomasz | January 22, 2010

Anyone with autism? Trying to get a diagnosis; if your doctor refused to even look at you having autism, and just said, you have an acute anxiety and should move on …. would you accept it or go elsewhere for a diagnosis? Thanks for answers, can someone tell me how long it might take to diagnose Asperger’s with a private psychiatrist?

From what you say, it does not sound like autism or Asperger’s to me. I really do not know why do you want that diagnosis, when most people go with (any) problems to their doctors with their symptoms, then the doctor decides what they, should be / should not be diagnosed with.

Anyway, if you really have Asperger’s, you will have many of the following symptoms: – Difficulties of the non-verbal communication, gestures, tone of voice, posture, facial expressions – The stuttering and hesitating / difficulty with small talk – Logical View / objective of all, difficulty seeing how things come across another point (s) of view – Intense (or obsessive) interest fascination with a narrow / specific topic – Knowledge / interest in a specific area, without regard to its own context – The gap / Deep / up-in-the-clouds far from thinking – Delay in communication (ie take more time to talk / socialize / etc) – Hyper-(ie sensitivity can not tolerate loud noise or lights) – The ritual routines / obsessive-compulsive / can not cope with not knowing what to expect – The bizarre behavior / habits / thinking / – Excessive dreaming / in a world of your own

There are probably few other symptoms that I’ve missed, but the anxiety / depression is often the result of what comes with social difficulties. People with these symptoms often experience bullying and rejection and then go through anger, depression, bitterness, social anxiety, etc..

Bottom line is, if the only symptoms you have are social anxiety / depression, then you are far better off dealing with those issues as they are. Being diagnosed with something like autism has major drawbacks.

This is a largest and most comprehensive resource for all special needs, including autism, down syndrome and other disabilities. The evidence of social anxiety or depression are far better to deal with than being diagnosed with autism.
