Gripped In Drug Addiction, Break Open The Addiction Cage

Samantha Thomas | January 28, 2010

Many people do not understand why individuals become addicted to drugs or how drugs change the brain to foster compulsive drug abuse. They mistakenly view drug abuse and addiction as strictly a social problem and may characterize those who take drugs as morally weak. One very common belief is that drug abusers should be able to just stop taking drugs if they are only willing to change their behavior.

What people often underestimate is the complexity of drug addiction-that it is a disease that impacts the brain and because of that, stopping drug abuse is not simply a matter of willpower. Through scientific advances we now know much more about how exactly drugs work in the brain, and we also know that drug addiction can be successfully treated to help people stop abusing drugs and resume their productive lives.

It’s because of these changes in the brain that it is so challenging for a person who is addicted to stop abusing drugs. Fortunately, there are treatments that help people to counteract addiction’s powerful disruptive effects and regain control.

All drug abuse treatment plans are premised on an inevitable and incontrovertible fact: Drug dependency is a disease. Drug addiction is not a product of individual volition, or moral weakness; drug addicts do not by any conceivable stretch of the imagination “choose” to use drugs, in the same sense that diabetics don’t choose to suffer from diabetes. On the contrary, drug use and abuse result form underlying clinical conditions, and can only be eradicated through clinical drug abuse treatment.

No two drug treatment centers are exactly alike. The number of options on the drug abuse treatment market can be overwhelming for prospective rehab patients, and it’s easy to assume that all rehab programs are equally effective. That, unfortunately, is far from the truth: If you’re going to get better, you’ve got to find a drug rehabilitation facility that can treat you as you need to be treated.

Drug rehab is most effective, indeed is perhaps only effective, when it works to foster individual growth in its patients. What that means, of course, is that addiction counseling is instrumental in any drug abuse treatment plan; no addict gets sober without learning new ways of relating to himself and his world. In fact, it’s fair to say that rehabilitation isn’t really rehabilitation if it doesn’t concern itself with patients’ emotional health.

Drug abuse treatment succeeds when drug abuse treatment patients play active roles in their own healing, and drug abuse treatment patients can only play active roles in their own healing if they know what to expect, and how to react to it. Before you can get better in drug abuse treatment, in other words, you’ve got to get smarter about drug abuse treatment.

The right drug rehab program will change your life. In fact, the day you trust your health to competent experts will be the day you start rediscovering the world as you used to know it, and yourself as you used to be. All that remains is for you to make an informed and intelligent decision.

Live An Addiction Free Life

Devina Joseph | January 28, 2010

Lived an abnormal life gripped in drug addiction? Is life not worth living for anymore? Life is the most precious gift of god & you have every right to live your life as normally as others do. Get to know more about drug addiction & how to come out of it.

Drug abuse can lead to drug dependence or addiction. Drug addiction may also follow the use of drugs for physical pain relief, though this is rare in people without a previous history of addiction. The exact reason of drug abuse and dependence is not yet known.

The genetic make-up of the individuals, peer pressure, emotional distress, anxiety, depression, and environmental stress are all factors which seem to be involved. Children who grow up in an environment of illicit drug use may first see their elders using drugs. This may put them at a higher risk for developing an addiction later in life for both environmental and genetic reasons.

Drug intoxication and drug overdose may be accidental or intentional. Drug withdrawal symptoms can occur when use of a substance is stopped. Withdrawal symptoms vary, depending on the particular substance. The withdrawal symptom depends on the length of time the drug was being used. Drug intoxication, overdose, and withdrawal can be life-threatening in some situations.

Drug Rehab was brought about to combat the evil effect of drug addiction as its use became more and more prevalent among teenagers and adolescents. The punk and rock culture that was prevalent made the use of these drugs appear ‘cool’ and once caught in the grip of this evil, the individual became more and more dependent on its use.

It is often advised that a patient stays at least 3 months in drug rehab, as those who stay longer have better results than those who spend less time.

Everyone is entitled to a happy, joyous, addiction-free life, with all of its benefits. The best rehab is the one that guarantees improved health, success in relationships, a feeling of self-worth & a life of abundance.

Individuals and families alike find sanctuary from the pain of drug abuse – at Sunset Malibu. Their addiction recovery facility is set in a beautiful, private location in Malibu, California. The patients will experience the highest quality amenities and comforts they deserve.

Five Elements Necessary Elements for Change and Healing

Ann Shorb | January 7, 2010

Being a counselor, I work with people on a daily basis who are searching for change. The Bible tells us that in order to make positive changes and to experience healing, we need to have five elements in place.

Aside from the Bible, my favorite book is The Search for Significance by Robert McGee. McGee concludes that each of the five elements must be present in your life in order to have true healing and lifelong change. Here are the five elements that he writes of:

1. Honesty – The first step towards achieving healing and creating a change in your life is to be honest with yourself, with others, and with God.

2. Affirming relationships – Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ, (Galatians 6:1-2).

3. Beliefs and thoughts that are based on Scripture – Just as important, we need to believe in the Word of God and live based on its teachings.

4. Direction and power of the Holy Spirit – When He, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth . . . (John 16:13).

5. Time – Healing and change takes time. Even when all of the other four elements in place, it will not happen overnight. However, with patience and work and all of the elements coming together, true change and healing is absolutely possible.

While all five of these are important, until you are first honest in recognizing and admitting that you have a problem, there can be no real growth, nor healing at all. Ask God to make you aware of anything that needs to be changed at this point in your life. Be honest with yourself about what He shows you.

Admit that there’s a problem and be honest about your need for His help and direction. Then find someone to be accountable to and to pray with. Be completely honest with him/her. Honesty with God, with others and with yourself is the first step in being all that you can be for Him!

Ann Shorb works in central PA as a Christian Biblical counselor that provides services for sexual addiction recovery, Christian Marriage Counseling, and other types of counseling.

More Information About Hair Follicle Drug Test

Keith Renner | December 16, 2009

Hair Follicle drug test has become the perfect way for law enforcement, physicians or parents to answer any questions regarding a person’s previous drug use as long as they have used within the previous 90 days. This can be done in the office or in the home.

The hair test is known for its accuracy, as it goes a little further than the urine or blood test. Due to the drug leaving the body within a few days, it will not show up in some types of drug test if a couple days have passed. Many of those drugs, however, become trapped in the hair follicles, showing up in the hair strands. It gives an in-depth view of what kind of drugs the subject has been using.

The blood stream carries the drugs to the hair follicle of the subject; it does not have to be on the head. Even after the drug leaves the body and does not show up in the blood or urine, the imprints on the hair shaft gives a better view of what kind of lifestyle the subject has been living.

Some of the drugs that are tested for are the ones that the government has deemed illegal. Some of the most popular tests check for drugs such as opiates and marijuana. Many prescription pills show up in the blood, urine, and hair and in order to be legal, the person should be able to account for the use of the drugs, such as a doctor’s note or prescription bottle.

The reason that the drugs show up in the hair is because they are carried there by the flow of blood in the human body. The drug gets trapped in the hair shaft and follicle. If in any case the person that is getting the hair test is bald, hair from other parts of the body can be used. If the person has the rare condition that does not allow them to grow hair anywhere on their body, the urine of the test subject will be used.

Most illegal drugs show up very easily with the use of the hair test. Some street drugs such as meth do not show up very well in urine and blood tests over a long period of time. Other drugs, such as marijuana will stay in the system for up to 30 days, but it shows up better in urine tests.

The size of the hair sample is very important when doing a hair test. The sample should not be any smaller that 30 milligrams in weight. This is approximately 50 to 70 strands. They must also be 1 and a half inches in length. This much hair is required because of the difference in hair colors and thickness. The hair is normally collected from the crown of the head where it takes longer to grow.

Although many companies and law enforcement are the most popular users of hair follicle tests, they can be bought for home use. Many parents decide to test their children to find out what they have been trying, especially if drug use is becoming a problem. This type of test will give accurate results if they it is done right. To find out more about drug tests, do a little research on line or talk to your local drug store.
