Carotenoids are naturally occurring plant pigments that provide the orange and yellow colors we see in plants and their produce. The vibrant orange color of carrot is provided by its high carotenoid content, in fact carrots are the biggest known source of carotenoids. Of the 600 known carotenoids, about 50 of them can also be converted to vitamin A by the liver.</p>
<p>The most abundant carotenoid in carrots is beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is also the first carotenoid to be discovered back in 1831 by Heinrich Wilhelm Ferdinand Wackenroder, one of the most well researched. Some time later researchers found that beta-carotene was transformed into vitamin A by the body, helping to prevent the once common problem of night blindness.</p>
<p>A deficiency in vitamin A is actually the root cause of night blindness. Vitamin A is needed to create another substance in the body called rhodopsin. Rhodopsin is a purple colored substance that allows the eye to see at night; without it we become night blind.</p>
<p>People who eat carrots or other foods rich in carotenoids have been shown in studies to be less likely to develop heart disease. Elderly people who ate carrots everyday were 50% less likely to have a heart attack. Furthermore, carrots also contain vitamin C, which help arteries stay elastic and healthy.</p>
<p>There is evidence that carotenoids help to protect us against heart disease. A study undertaken in Massachusetts reviewed the diets of 1,300 elderly people. Those who ate carrots or squash (another carotenoid rich food source) daily were 60% less likely to suffer a heart attack compared to those who ate carrots and squash less than once a day.</p>
<p>If that&#8217;s not enough, carotenoids and carrots are also associated with cancer protection. Studies show a high intake of carotenoids can cut the chances of developing some cancers in half. Such cancers include that of the lungs, prostate, colon and esophagus.</p>
<p>Carotenoids also protect us from becoming night blind when they are transformed into vitamin A. Some of this Vitamin A in turn is converted into rhodopsin, a purple plant pigment needed in the eye to see at night. Vitamin A deficiency will inevitably lead to night blindness and eventually complete blindness if not supplied in the diet.</p>
<p>One of the best ways to increase your daily intake is through juicing. Juicing carrots for example, helps carotenoids become more available for digestion because the chewing is already done &#8211; so to speak. You will also need 5 or more carrots to provide one glass of juice, providing A LOT of carotenoids!</p>

Children don&#8217;t normally develop nervousness disorders or irrational fears because of this. However panic disorders can develop I children for other reasons.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s not possible to defend children from everything. Children can develop the same nervousness disorders present in adults. A generalized panic disorder might be seen in children in several different ways. They might excessively worry about normal events like school or things at home. They could be overly motivated about having everything right. The child might do the same thing over and over again trying to get it perfect. They might also seek endless approval and reassurance from others.</p>
<p>OCD, or Obsessive- compulsive Disorder, can also be found in children. OCD is intrusive or unwanted thoughts or obsessions that can&#8217;t seem to be cleaned from a person&#8217;s head. They also might show strong urges to repeatedly perform ritualistic behaviors and routines to try to ease their anxieties. Children as young as 2 and 3 have been diagnosed though the typical age for children to suffer CD is 10. There are a range of signs for OCD like repeating the same task over and over again in an agitated manner, continually counting the same items and terror over feasible mistakes they make.</p>
<p>Panic disorders are something different. Children may be diagnosed with panic attacks after suffering from a minimum of 2 panic attacks. This is more often during adolescence.</p>
<p>Irrational fear of certain places, objects or situations can be a sign of children suffering anxiety disorders. Although childhood fears like being fearful of animals, storms or the dark can go away on their own, if a fear is persistent within the child for at least six months and interferes with their daily activities, the child is said to have a phobia. Symptoms can include suffering from a stomach ache or headache, a tantrum, becoming clingy, or freezing in place when confronted with the fear.</p>
<p>Traumatic events like losing a parent or physical assault can cause these kinds of problems. These children might display symptoms of not eating or sleeping, emotional numbing, reliving the event through bad nightmares or through playing, or fear that the event might happen again.</p>
<p>Even thought children can suffer from these disorders they can manifest themselves differently. For one, children do not have an understanding that their fears are irrational plus, they might not be able to verbalize their feelings either. Children suffering from stress disorders who are suspected of having any anxiety disorder should be referred to their regular pediatrician.</p>
