Training For A Career In The Health Field Has Many Benefits

Kate Delaney | January 28, 2010

Many sectors of commerce and industry have been forced to make drastic cut-backs on staff numbers during the recession. In contrast, the health care sector continues to make rapid growth. Even in these tough times, some 300,000 health care jobs became available in America during 2009. This means that training for a career in the health field will give you an excellent chance of employment.

Occupations in health care are many and varied. For those who like the idea of working alongside doctors and nurses in a hospital, training to be a medical assistant would be ideal. Interacting with patients, taking vital signs and recording medical histories form part of a medical assistant’s duties.

A dental assistant is another option. This is basically the same as a medical assistant but in a dental environment. You will attend to incoming patients and do other administrative jobs, make appointments and get instruments sterilized and ready for the dentist. You will also help the dentist during procedures.

If you are not too keen to work around a lot of blood, you could consider training as a massage therapist. In this profession you will get to meet all types of people, and you will always be in demand. In our modern stressed-out world you won’t be short of patients needing a rejuvenating massage.

A pharmacy technician will never be out of a job. If you are good with maths and science and enjoy working with the public, you will find this career very rewarding. Working under a registered pharmacist, you will be required to dispense prescription medications, do admin work and help the pharmacist with all kinds of other tasks.

These are just a few careers in the health field. If you go online you can read up about these in more detail. You can also consider other options for health care workers, and find out about training schools. Working in the health care industry is an excellent choice for any young person.
